Code of Ethics Policy
Policy Brief & Purpose
Our professional code of ethics policy provides our employees with clear guidelines on business ethics and our stance on various important matters. Silver Bluemoon LLC firmly believes that its members must uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional behavior while prioritizing the safety, health, and welfare of the public in all professional duties.
Scope
This policy applies to everyone we employ or conduct business with, including employees, interns, volunteers, as well as business entities such as vendors, enterprise customers, or venture capital companies.
Note that our code of ethics differs from our code of conduct. While our code of conduct may include elements such as dress code and social media use, our professional code of ethics pertains to legally or morally significant issues. However, some overlap exists between these two codes.
Policy Elements
What is a Code of Professional Ethics?
Professional ethics are a set of principles that guide behavior in a business setting. They are essential to maintaining legal compliance, a healthy workplace, and a culture of integrity.
Our code of ethics outlines the standards that apply within our organization, providing a framework for ethical decision-making and professional behavior.
Purpose of a Professional Code of Ethics
Having our business ethics in writing does not imply a lack of trust in our employees. We strive to hire ethical individuals with strong personal values, making a formal code unnecessary in most cases.
However, this code serves as a valuable reference when faced with challenging decisions. Ethical dilemmas often arise in gray areas where right and wrong are not immediately apparent. Additionally, some ethical considerations align with legal requirements that employees must be aware of to perform their roles effectively.
Moreover, every organization occasionally makes hiring mistakes, and predicting behavior is impossible. If an employee acts or intends to act in a way that violates our professional ethics or applicable laws, this code provides clear guidance on disciplinary measures.
For these reasons, we encourage you to read this document carefully and consult with your manager or HR if you have any doubts or questions.
Our Core Ethical Principles
We base our business code of ethics on common principles:
- Respect for Others: Treat people as you wish to be treated.
- Integrity and Honesty: Act truthfully and avoid wrongdoing.
- Justice: Be fair and objective in your decisions.
- Lawfulness: Comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Competence and Accountability: Work diligently and take responsibility for your actions.
- Teamwork: Collaborate and seek help when needed.
Respect for Others
Respect is mandatory in all interactions. Employees must be kind, polite, and considerate of others’ opinions, personal space, and privacy. Any form of violence, harassment, or victimization is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disciplinary action.
If you experience or witness offensive, demeaning, or threatening behavior, report it to HR or your manager immediately. Excessive or frequent rudeness should also be reported.
Integrity and Honesty
All employees must align their behavior with the company’s mission and goals. Transparency is essential when making decisions that impact others. Malicious, deceitful, or unethical conduct will not be tolerated.
Stealing, fraud, or embezzlement will result in immediate termination and legal action. Minor infractions (e.g., taking office supplies) may lead to reprimands, but serious offenses will have severe consequences.
Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest arises when personal interests interfere with professional responsibilities. Examples include using one’s position for personal gain or exploiting company resources for personal business. Any conflict of interest will result in immediate termination. Unintentional conflicts (e.g., unknowingly investing in a competitor) will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Repeated offenses will lead to termination.
Justice
Employees must act fairly and give equal opportunities to all. Decisions related to hiring, promotions, or dismissals should be objective and justifiable. Discrimination or bias is not tolerated. Favoritism should be avoided, and disciplinary actions should be supported by documented evidence.
When dealing with customers or vendors, employees must act ethically. If the company is at fault in any situation, employees must work toward a fair resolution instead of covering up mistakes.
Lawfulness
All employees must comply with laws relevant to their roles. This includes industry-specific regulations (e.g., financial, medical, or contractual laws).
Employees working with legal documents, contracts, or consent forms should seek approval from legal counsel before finalizing any agreements. Confidentiality and data protection policies must be followed to safeguard sensitive information.
Laws against fraud, bribery, corruption, and assault must always be adhered to. Employees are also responsible for ensuring that our business engagements comply with all legal requirements.
If uncertain about a legal matter, employees should consult HR or legal counsel.
Competence and Accountability
Every employee contributes to the company’s success. Slacking off or failing to meet responsibilities negatively affects colleagues and contradicts our values of respect and integrity.
Employees should actively seek learning and development opportunities. Taking responsibility for mistakes and finding solutions to rectify them is expected. Regular failure to take accountability will result in disciplinary action, up to termination.
Teamwork
Collaboration is essential for success. Employees are encouraged to share knowledge, support one another, and ask for assistance when needed. A culture of teamwork enhances productivity and fosters innovation.
By adhering to this code of ethics, employees uphold Silver Bluemoon’s commitment to integrity, fairness, and professionalism in all business operations. If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to HR or your manager.
